The four main entrances to Mount Rainier are:

  • Nisqually Entrance: Southwest
  • Sunrise Entrance: Northeast
  • Stevens Canyon Entrance: Southeast
  • Carbon River: Northwest

If you’re staying outside Mount Rainier, your preferred park entrance would depend on the proximity to the accommodation and the activities you plan to enjoy. If you’re traveling to Mount Rainier from Seattle, the Nisqually entrance leading to Paradise is the most popular option. It’s also the only entrance that’s open year-round.

If you want to explore the popular Paradise area, staying in Ashford is an excellent option. It’s the closest town to the Nisqually entrance. But don’t overlook Packwood, either. It’s a fantastic base for your adventure, allowing you to explore the entire park.
